Finding Family

When he first stepped into Milestone Church, John Brown wasn’t exactly sure what he was looking for–but what he found had a profound impact on his life. Two years later, now faithfully serving on our worship team, John reflects on his time here and how the people of Milestone have given him a place to belong.

“Two years ago last weekend, I walked through the doors at Milestone Church for the first time. I didn’t really know what I was looking for, but as it turns out, I was looking for a place to call home.

I was looking for spiritual family.

I had a couple of friends at Milestone who invited me to come check it out. I knew it was a special place from the first service I attended on a weekend. The presence of the Holy Spirit was so tangible in the room.

It didn’t take long at all to get connected with the people who I now honestly consider to be my best friends. Everyone was so nice and genuinely wanted to get to know me and make me feel welcome. It’s weird to think back to a time when all of us hanging out wasn’t a regular part of my life.

But the best part is that we don’t just go out to eat or go see a movie together. I know I have a group of people around me who love me enough to call me out when they see something in me that isn’t living according to God’s will for my life. We’ll celebrate for each other when something awesome happens in our lives and we’ll be there for each other when the tough seasons come.

God has also helped me grow spiritually more than I could imagine here at Milestone. I can’t even count how many times God has given me a word during one of Pastor Jeff’s sermons that impacted my life. I’m so thankful for the pastors, leaders, and friends that have shaped me and helped me grow over the last two years. It’s amazing to experience first-hand what God is doing through the local church.”

2017 is a historic year for our church as we move into our brand new building in just a few months. But as beautiful as it will be, the life isn’t in the facility itself…it’s in the relationships we have with those around us.

The heartbeat of Milestone Church is found in spiritual family.

Pastor Jeff encouraged us last weekend to make 2017 a year that we “look up” and keep our eyes on what matters most. When we look up from our own issues and hang-ups we are able to see people as Jesus sees them.

Over the next several months hundreds of people, like John Brown, will come through the doors of Milestone for the very first time. They may not be able to articulate what they’re looking for yet, but deep down everyone wants a place to belong, a place to call home. We have an incredible opportunity to see people from God’s perspective and invite them into our spiritual family.

Milestone is an everyone church and every single person matters. We all have a unique part to play in reaching people and building the lives of those around us. Let’s keep looking up!

May we all “Look Up” and make more space for people like John to call Milestone Church home. Spiritual family is a game changer. We were never created to do life in isolation and unknown. Let’s fight for what really matters. Way to go John.

This is an awesome story! Being a part of Spiritual Family is so impactful in so many ways and a part of God’s plan for His people. Milestone’s new building will allow for more people to come and find family and relationships, with Christ at the center of it all!
