We all face challenges in life—financial struggles, loss of loved ones, and relational problems. The question isn’t whether hardships will come; it’s how we’ll respond when they do.

The following verse found in the book of Psalms tells us that while pain and sorrow are real, God’s joy is always available to us.

Psalm 30:5b (NLT)
Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.?

The joy we find in God is more than a fleeting emotion—it’s all-encompassing, everlasting, and completely fulfilling. The joy of the Lord is accessible to us in every situation, but we have to make the daily decision to choose it. When we choose His joy, it’ll overflow in our hearts and strengthen us, changing how we handle every situation life throws at us. A verse found in Nehemiah reminds us of the strength we can find in the Lord.

Nehemiah 8:10b (NIV)
Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

One of the best ways to experience God’s joy is through worship.
Worship is our response to what God has done for us. Worship shifts the focus from our challenges onto His goodness, from our struggles to His peace.

Choosing joy isn’t always easy—it’s a daily decision, but the joy of the Lord will transform your life, strengthening you, upholding you, and providing unimaginable hope and peace.

As you go about your day, ask yourself these questions:

  • How am I in need of God’s joy in my life right now?
  • What is one step I can take to choose joy?

As a way to actively choose joy, say this prayer out loud wherever you are:

God, thank You for always being with me. Fill my heart with joy, no matter the challenges I face. Remind me that Your joy has the power to strengthen me and give me peace. Thank You for Your goodness and Your love. Amen.
