The Domino Effect: How An Entire Family Met Jesus

“Dad, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior!”

These are the words that my son, Dalyn Frigaard, proclaimed to me one night after he attended Elevate at Milestone Church. Little did I know this was the beginning of our family transformation. I remember the excitement in Dalyn’s eyes as he started this journey. My first thought when Dalyn told me that he had become a Christian was that this was great because it will keep him around good kids until the newness wears off like the smell of a new car.

Dalyn proclaimed his new-found faith, and he started attending a Bible study once a week and church twice a week. My wife and I were not attending church anywhere at the time. I tried to keep God at arm’s length so it would not be too inconvenient and intrude into our lives. Dalyn, on the other hand, was embracing his faith. He was reading his Bible, praying, and growing like crazy.

“Dad, I’m getting baptized!”

When he first told me he was getting baptized as a public declaration of his faith, I understood this was important to him, so we wanted to be a supportive family and decided to attend. I’ll never forget walking into Milestone for the first time. The first thing that was different is that there were greeters at every door so I couldn’t sneak in without being noticed. The greeters seemed so sincere! I felt like Milestone was real…real people, real struggles, and nothing fake. I instantly felt comfortable.

“Dad, I’m speaking at Elevate By Elevate on Wednesday!”

After my son’s baptism, we did not go back to Milestone until Dalyn invited us to watch him speak at Elevate By Elevate. I had no clue what this meant, but I like to support my kids when they have something that is important to them, so we went.

They had four speakers that night, and all of them did a great job, but something amazing happened when my son got up to talk. First of all, I thought he was just going to tell his story, but he preached a full-on sermon! I felt strongly that Dalyn had a unique call on his life that would impact other people. After the service, I met Dalyn out in the lobby and told him what a great job he did, and he said “Dad, I feel like this is what God has called me to do with my life.” I was speechless.

Heather and I, along with our daughter and her fiance, started attending Milestone regularly after Dalyn spoke at Elevate by Elevate in October of 2017. All four of us began to talk more about Jesus, and we started recognizing how he has been at work in our lives all along. Even when we weren’t seeking him, He was still seeking us. I started reading my Bible every day and praying more frequently with my wife.

God had been giving me signs that I needed to fully surrender, and I realized that it was time! I prayed and fully surrendered my life to God. I gave Him everything.

I instantly wanted to start telling friends and family about Jesus and how he transformed my life.

I didn’t know what I was going to say, but I started making coffee and lunch appointments with friends and whenever I thought they would think I was crazy, God gave me the words.

Since then my daughter, Victoria, and her husband have accepted Jesus and have been baptized. My son, Dalyn, started a Bible Study at Timber Creek High School that has grown to 70 kids. Timber Creek’s Bible study inspired Keller High School to start one that has over 50 kids, and they are working on how to start one at Central and Fossil Ridge. My wife and I were recently baptized and are growing in our faith every day. Now, we’re getting ready for the Freedom Bible Study series. We are excited to be on this journey and can’t wait for what God has next!
